New Cranes and Derricks Standard Being Released Today

SC&RA has received notification from the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) that the new Cranes and Derricks Standard will be released today, Wednesday, July 28, 2010.

As reported numerous times through SC&RA's newsletter and official publications, the Cranes and Derricks rule had not been revised since 1971 and no longer afforded the protection workers in the industry needed. Representatives from several SC&RA member companies served on a panel of 23 experts from all facets of the industry. The Committee was appointed by OSHA in July 2003 to develop a recommended proposal for the rule.

From 3-4 pm, today, Wednesday, July 28, 2010, OSHA will be conducting a live Web chat to discuss new historic rules to be issued today addressing the safety of cranes and derricks in construction. To participate, access the Web chat by clicking here at 3 p.m. EST.

During this live meeting, you will be able to submit questions regarding the new cranes and derricks standard. You will also be able to follow our responses to other stakeholders as we post our replies live during the session.
