Bronze Star-Recipient & Entrepreneur Set to Open Annual Conference

- Jake Harriman, former Marine Corps Platoon Commander and founder and CEO of Nuru International, will be the opening speaker of the 2019 SC&RA Annual Conference, April 23-27 in Carlsbad, Calif. Harriman started Nuru, a U.S.-based social venture that empowers individuals living in remote and rural areas, after facing the effects of poverty in war-torn regions of the world during four tours of duty in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. There he developed a deeply-held belief that many 21st century ills, including terrorism and occupation, can only be eradicated by ending extreme poverty. A Bronze Star-recipient and Stanford University Graduate School of Business alum, Harriman has been honored as a White House “Champion of Change” and selected as a Dalai Lama “Unsung Hero of Compassion.” The Annual Conference, held each April, attracts owners, CEO’s, top managers and leaders in the industry. Highlights include education sessions by well-known authors and speakers, like Harriman, committee meetings, receptions and numerous networking opportunities, golf and tennis tournaments, a fundraising gala, the renowned Job of the Year competition, safety awards and a Products Fair.
