Spain’s Gamesa Targets Mexico’s Baja California for Wind Power
Gamesa, a Spanish wind-power company, hopes to sell as many as 2,000 wind turbines to Baja California, Mexico, according to an article in the January 18 issue of Renewable Energy World. Industry heavyweights, including Cannon Power, Union Fenosa and Sempra Energy are pursuing ambitions projects in the region. The windy state beneath Southern California is expected to attract $6 billion of wind investments by 2015, resulting in generation capacity of 5,000 megawatts by 2017. Gamesa has a 10-year contract to sell turbines to Cannon Power, which is on track to build as many as 1,000 megawatts of wind parks by 2016. Most of the activity is expected to be within an area stretching 10 miles wide and 80 miles long.
