State Advocacy with Permit Systems

North Carolina’s new automated system experienced major delays for SC&RA members in its first few weeks of its implementation. SC&RA members and staff engaged directly with NCDOT to assist in external communications and other strategies to alleviate the massive backlog and get members moving through the state again. The ability for carriers to pre-test a new automated system has also emerged as a standard best practice for SC&RA permitting advocacy efforts, as well as SC&RA efforts to reemphasize the need for auto-issue, rather than simply automated permit systems.
