Tech Trends, Legalized Marijuana and Employee Performance Among Featured Topics at 2019 SC&RA Crane & Rigging Workshop

- The Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association’s 2019 Crane & Rigging Workshop will be held September 18-20 at the Renaissance Phoenix Glendale Hotel in Phoenix, Ariz. The annual event attracts hundreds of top managers, safety directors, legal experts, operations personnel and crane operators from many of the industry’s foremost companies.

Covering everything from legal education and regulatory updates to cutting-edge technology and safety practices, this year’s schedule features some of the industry’s top professionals hosting sessions on a variety of topics, including:

  • Navigating the Haze of Legalized Marijuana in the Construction Industry – Seventeen states have legalized marijuana, and it’s now up to companies to figure out how to address the legal and practical aspects of recreational and medical marijuana use. This session – featuring panelists Pat Collins, Link-Belt Cranes; Ryan Long, Irving Equipment Limited; and Bob Picken, Sterling Crane – will focus on how companies in the U.S. and Canada are tackling the issue and what you can do now to be proactive and start managing it in your organization.
  • A Crisis of Disengagement – This keynote session features entrepreneur, CEO and best-selling author Dan Negroni’s six-step framework you can use to increase engagement, performance and retention among employees at your company. Many companies are experiencing a crisis of engagement and either aren’t aware of it or are ignoring the problem, especially with millennials and Gen Zs. This session will help you attract, train, manage and retain this next generation of leaders.
  • Tech Trends in Crane & Rigging – Learn how to leverage the latest technology and make your company more efficient and much safer. Panelists include Ted Blanton, President of North American Crane Bureau (NACB); Jane Intrieri, Director of Marketing & Sales at Fleet Cost & Care, and Tawnia Weiss, President of A1A Software.
  • Understanding Ground Bearing Capacities – This session, conducted by Jeff Steiner of Bigfoot Construction and Mike Walsh of Dearborn Companies, will review the underlying physics and reaction forces involved in ground stability during crane setup. Mr. Steiner and Mr. Walsh will also share best practices in ground stabilization methods and techniques.
  • Cut to the Chase: Best Practices in Sling Protection – Sling protection is a crucial but often overlooked element of consideration in load handling activities where slings are used, and contrary to popular belief, “cut-proof” slings don’t exist. This presentation, by Mike Gelskey, Jr., of Lift-It Manufacturing, will explore direct and indirect forms of sling protection, appropriate mitigation methods, inspection and removal from service criteria, as well as key considerations relative to damage caused by abrasion and/or cutting.
  • 2019 Exhibit Center – This year’s exhibit center features 94 booths where attendees can meet and mingle with the crane and rigging industry’s leading manufacturers, publishers and service providers. New products, services and industry innovations will be featured. A small number of booths are still available, and more information on exhibiting can be found here.
