SC&RA Announces First-of-its-Kind Virtual Crane & Rigging Workshop
(Centreville, VA - July 20, 2020) - The Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association’s (SC&RA) 2020 Crane & Rigging Workshop will make its VR (virtual reality) debut this year, from September 16-17. Registration is currently open, with early-bird pricing available through July 20.
Each year, the Crane & Rigging Workshop attracts hundreds of top managers, safety directors, legal experts, operations personnel and crane operators from many of the industry’s foremost companies. While the 2020 Workshop will still represent the world’s premier gathering of crane and rigging professionals, due to traveling and safety challenges connected with COVID-19, all in attendance will do so remotely, taking part in virtual education sessions as well as the Exhibit Center by means of VR glasses provided by SC&RA, or a personal computer.
Those who do choose to purchase the VR option – comprised of a computer-generated, interactive simulation of a live 3-D environment – will receive special VR glasses, courtesy of SC&RA. All attendees will have access to both the Exhibit Center as well as the largest offering of educational sessions ever presented at an SC&RA Workshop.

“SC&RA has been serving the industry for seventy-two years, and we’re not going to let the current situation stop us from offering our members a way to learn and engage during this challenging time,” said SC&RA Senior Vice President, Crane & Rigging Beth O’Quinn. “We also want to thank our partner, A1A Software LLC, for bringing the VR Workshop to life, as well as our Diamond Sponsors, National Interstate Insurance Company, NBIS and A1A Software.”
Within the new virtual format, eventgoers will experience the benefit of live discussions and interactions – with presenters, fellow attendees and exhibitors conveniently available. Similar to a traditional event, attendees will also still be able to (digitally) network in dedicated areas.
With more than a dozen Workshop educational sessions available, highlights this year include: Infrastructure Funding Status and Impact; Rigging & Lifting with Blocks; Safe and Fast: Rigging Heavy & Awkward Loads with Air Casters; Ask the Expert; Bull Rigging Project In-Action; Let B30 Work for You: Defend Against Personal Injury Actions.
An additional advantage for Workshop participants is that the virtual format eliminates the need to choose between session tracks because all sessions will be broadcast separately and hosted online afterward.
To that end, the virtual Exhibit Center – which will feature the look and feel of the Exhibit Centers attendees have come to expect at the Workshop – will be available throughout the entire two-day event. However, company representatives will only be in their digital booths from 1-3pm on September 16 to interact with visitors and answer questions.
As for the Exhibit Center experience, exhibitors will be able to customize their virtual booths with their logos and artwork, as well as upload brochures and videos using one of four virtual booth layouts available. As attendees virtually travel through the Exhibit Hall, they will be able to talk with exhibitors as they would at a traditional event. They’ll also be able to view videos and brochures, and add them to their virtual “swag bag” to reference later.
