SC&RA STATEMENT ON TODAY’S SUPREME COURT RULING

- CENTREVILLE, VA. – The Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association CEO Joel Dandrea released the following statement on today’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling that some of President Donald Trump’s global tariffs exceeded an emergency powers law passed by Congress:

“While this ruling primarily pertains to reciprocal tariffs, SC&RA remains focused on alleviating the effects of steel and aluminum tariffs on members’ operations for which there is no, or very little, supply in the U.S. and which is essential for products like cranes and specialized trailers. While SC&RA fully supports U.S. manufacturing, there are certain products, e.g., high strength steel not manufactured in the U.S., that are required to build America and keep pace with construction schedules within fair and practical budgets. We need additional time and/or targeted relief now as critical projects are happening and our member companies are struggling with higher costs and moving targets and are having a very difficult time planning equipment purchases to address our needs.”

“We expect it will take the Trump administration a few weeks to unwind the existing tariff structure, assess potential refund issues, and remap their strategy specific to the statutory authority the administration maintains to recapture lost revenue with other tariffs. This SCOTUS decision follows recent announcements by the administration on consideration for potential rollbacks on steel and aluminum tariffs. This Supreme Court decision has the potential to again change the administration’s tariff policies on steel, aluminum and other products. SC&RA will continue to monitor this process and engage Congress to advocate for the industry’s positions. Our members lift and move the world, and with our critical infrastructure status, we are leveraging our advocacy efforts to capture more time to adapt to tariff policies and alleviate the burden of tariffs which reverberates into every industry who needs and uses our cranes and specialized transport equipment.”
