SC&RA Offers COVID-19 Guidelines as Industry Recognized as Essential Critical

- SC&RA received notice from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security March 28 confirming the U.S. crane, rigging, and specialized transportation industry and its workers as Essential Critical Infrastructure.

In Guidance on the Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce, issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the crane, rigging and specialized transportation industry and its workers were mentioned as essential critical infrastructure under “Transportation and Logistics:”
“Workers including truck drivers, railroad employees and contractors, maintenance crew, and cleaners supporting transportation of chemicals, hazardous, medical, and waste materials to support critical infrastructure, capabilities, functions, and services, including specialized carriers, crane and rigging industry workers.”

SC&RA had sent a statement to the Department of Homeland Security four days prior, asking for clarification on whether the crane, rigging and specialized transportation industry and its workers were Essential Critical Infrastructure.

Also last week, SC&RA created COVID-19 Guidelines for Safe Workplace Practices, a document of best practices and current information about prevention of COVID-19 in the workplace. This guideline was compiled jointly by SC&RA’s Crane & Rigging and Transportation Groups’ Safety, Education & Training Committees.
