SC&RA Urges Further Tariff Relief for Tower & Crawler Cranes, High-Tensile Steel
(June 18, 2026) -In a June 16, 2026,
letter to Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, SC&RA thanked the Trump Administration for the recent 15% tariff relief on mobile cranes (HTSUS 8705.10.00) under Annex I-C of the June 1 Proclamation. SC&RA is now requesting that tower cranes (HTSUS 8426.20.00) and crawler cranes (HTSUS 8426.49.00 and 8426.99.00) receive the same 15% rate. These cranes are functionally equivalent to mobile cranes for critical heavy-lifting work on infrastructure, energy, AI data centers, semiconductor plants, and other key projects. The disparity appears to be a classification oversight rather than a policy choice. Additionally, SC&RA seeks a tariff exemption for specialized high-tensile steel, which is unavailable domestically, that U.S. manufacturers need to build safe, reliable cranes and trailers. SC&RA’s letter emphasizes how these measures would support America’s infrastructure and economic progress. The letter emphasizes how these measures support America's industrial renaissance. SC&RA remains committed to further dialogue with the Department of Commerce to ensure members have access to essential equipment without unnecessary cost burdens. To read the letter,
