Regulatory Alert: New Crane Safety Standards in Washington State

- Effective September 5, 2025, the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries has adopted amendments to its safety standards for cranes and derricks in construction, aligning state rules with updated federal requirements from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and implementing new provisions specific to tower crane operations. SC&RA has determined key elements of the rulemaking which include: Alignment with OSHA Requirements; Implementation of 2024 State Legislation – Tower Crane Safety; Crane Decertification and Reinstatement; and Expanded Requirements for Key Personnel.
