Ladies Group Dissolved; Spouses’ Activities Still Part of Annual Conference Agenda

- In June 2022, the SC&RA Board of Directors voted to dissolve the Ladies Group – a membership group established in 1968 of primarily female spouses dedicated to planning social activities at the Annual Conference and the annual fundraiser to benefit the SC&RF. The decision was made in order to broaden the opportunities for females in the industry beyond social activities, reduce the need for a dues collection, and remain relevant.

The spouses and guests continue to be welcome and invited to attend (if registered) the Annual Conference – including breakfasts, sessions and receptions. A spouse program remains in place with a brunch and presentation panel titled Protecting Our Legacies - Addressing Mental Health Issues. This is an opportunity for all spouses to gather and network, share a meal and hear from these speakers.

What was the “Spouse’s Time Out” social hour to provide a formal place to meet-up, will remain in this year’s agenda with a new name of “Spouses’ Meet & Greet” where spouses are invited to gather to network and visit with other spouses.

The Gala, hosted by the Ladies Group since 1988, has been absorbed into the SC&RF (Specialized Carriers & Rigging Foundation) as the organization has been the beneficiary of the net proceeds for 34 years.  During this transition, members of the Ladies Group are working with the SC&RF Communications/Development Committee to plan the 2023 Gala – Fete En Blanc: A Magical Mystery Tour.
