Permit Harmonization & Truck Parking Hot Topics

(August 31,2023) -SC&RA VP Chris Smith spoke to MAASTO Annual Conference’s Subcommittee on Highway Transport during its recent annual meeting in Milwaukee. Chaired by Iowa DOT’s Alex Jansen and hosted by Wisconsin DOT’s Ehren Bittorf, the committee consists of the lead OS/OW permit officials across 13 Midwest states. Hot topics included the next steps on permit harmonization, as well as the unique needs the specialized transportation industry faces when its drivers look for truck parking. Other SC&RA member presenters included Permit Policy Committee members Spencer Wu, Bentley Transportation Solutions, and John Mummert, ProMiles Software Development Corporation, who provided updates on their respective automated permit system platforms in use across the region.
