SC&RA 2021 Specialized Transportation Symposium Set for June 22-24, Birmingham, Alabama

Annual Symposium kicks off SC&RA live events in 2021 - CENTREVILLE, Va. — The Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association’s 2021 Specialized Transportation Symposium will be held June 22-24, at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel in Birmingham, Alabama.

Bolstered by SC&RA Safe® Protocol, the Association’s commitment to enhanced health and safety measures (social distancing, enhanced daily cleaning, contact tracing and a medical response plan), the Symposium will again serve as the transportation event of the year, offering up unsurpassed opportunities for transportation professionals on every level to network with top operations managers, safety directors, safety managers, pilot car professionals, and permitting officials from AASHTO’s Committee on Transportation Systems Operations (CTSO) Freight Working Group.

SC&RA’s Pilot Car and Permit Policy Committees will also convene at the Symposium. Attendees get a chance to interface with members of these groups throughout the week, as they do with many of the hundreds in attendance, during an assortment of educational sessions, scheduled networking breaks and evening receptions. Moreover, newcomers will benefit from the First-Timer’s Briefing and the SC&RA Leadership Forum, designed to help fast-track the best and brightest young minds to the next levels of professional and Association leadership.

“After a year like no other, we are thrilled to be back in action once again at this years’ Specialized Transportation Symposium,” said Chris Smith, SC&RA Vice President, Transportation. “We’re also grateful to the state permit officials for joining us in Birmingham virtually so that all of the states and SC&RA members can get momentum moving again on permit automation and harmonization.”

To that end, the opening session at STS – Establishing Safety Culture Within Your Specialized Carrier Company – kicks off the week with a focus on safety as part of long-term success, when speaker Brian Fielkow, CEO, Jetco Delivery/Executive Vice President at The GTI Group walks attendees through how an investment in safety culture is an investment in the bottom line.

Another high-value session – the SC&RA Insurance Partners Panel – gives participants an unmatched opportunity to hear from five of SC&RA’s insurance partners on different insurance topics, including a Q&A session. Speakers include: Bill Hebron (NBIS), Daniel Keenan (National Interstate Insurance Company), Cameron Boots (Allied Insurance Brokers, Inc.), Dan Cook (TrueNorth Companies) and James Stovall (USI Insurance Services LLC).

Attendees will gain particular insights from Jamie France, Logistics Safety & Quality Engineer, General Electric Renewable Energy, Onshore Wind, when he presents Tips for Winning Contracts with the Wind Energy Market – which drills down on the strategies and best practices SC&RA members can implement to continue to win business in the wind energy space while working with major manufacturers and shippers.

Best Practices for Specialized Carriers in the Courtroom will be another presentation the STS audience won’t want to miss. Presented by Bill Kanasky Jr., PH.D., Senior Vice President, Courtroom Sciences (CSI); John Pion, Attorney, Pion, Nerone, Girman, Winslow & Smith, P.C.; and Tim Smith, Attorney, Pion, Nerone, Girman, Winslow & Smith, P.C., this session spotlights how the trucking and transportation industry is tackling the current crisis of nuclear verdicts and settlements over the last decade, and provides a deep analysis of the causes of such verdicts, as well as proven tactics to avoid such disastrous outcomes.

By attending, participants will enjoy numerous opportunities to interact with industry peers and government officials in-person again while discussing permitting harmonization, safety, regulations, compliance and some of the most pressing topics in specialized transportation today. Additionally, eventgoers will enjoy the highly anticipated Exhibit Center, boasting nearly 50 booths, as well as the Hauling Jobs of the Year presentations, which highlight projects that exemplify best safety practices, ingenuity and specialized engineering.

Registration for this event is now open, with early-bird pricing available through April 16. To see a full list of topics and speakers, or to register, visit www.scranet.org/symposium2021.
